January 10, 2012 – U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ISSUES GRANT FOR PEDAL AMERICA's SIGHT-IMPAIRED AUDIENCES PDF Print

The U.S. Department of Education issued the National Captioning Institute a grant so blind and other visually-impaired viewers can enjoy the Pedal America television show when it begins to air on public television in May 2012.

NCI Described Video is a service that adds concise vivid descriptions of a program’s visual elements.

The show's Executive Producer, Ira David, applied for the grant through the National Captioning Institute when working on closed-captioning details for the hearing impaired.  "My team is both honored and grateful for this award," Ira David says. "Cycling is an all-inclusive activity. Everybody should have access to both the broadcast and bicycling."

The Pedal America team just completed shooting its first seven episodes in Chicago; Raystown Lake, PA; Austin, TX; Sedona, AZ; Napa Valley, CA; Savannah, GA; and Tampa, FL.

Post-production has already started while Ira David and his team sets their sights on attending off-air events and producing Season Two in 2012.
